Sunday Afternoon at the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival
I spent a pleasant Sunday afternoon in Denton TX yesterday at the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival and took a bunch of fotos of my long time friend and collaborator Karen MacIntyre and dancers and students from her Green Space Arts Collective
Karen and I went to college together at The University of Texas way back in the 70's we have been friends for like 35 years.
Karen is quite amazing: she just finished up her MFA in Dance at Texas Womens University. She has been a dancer, choreographer and teacher her entire life.
She works as hard or harder than any performer I know.
Karen owns and directs Green Space Arts Collecive in Denton where she keeps studio space for artists and performers and teaches dance classes.

An Isla Mujeres Primer For My Friend "K" part three
An Isla Mujeres Primer
For
My Friend "K"
part three
when we do
A Day At Playa Sol
time
is not measured
on a clock
rather
time
is
the sun
the light on the beach
changes constantly
subtle
but constant
black
is
the absence of color
and
black
is the absence of light
light
defines
color
the changing light
constantly
re defines
color
those of us
who obsess
about
our cameras
obsess
about
sunset
and
the changing light
and
the changing color
sunsets
are like
snowflakes
and
other natural wonders
no two sunsets
are
exactly the same
when the sun sets
just right
everybody on the beach
applauds
but
there is no curtain call
for a sunset
a imperfectly perfect sunset
is
a perfectly imperfect finish
for
A Day At Playa Sol
(more primer entries coming soon)

An Isla Mujeres Primer for my friend "K" part two
An Isla Mujeres Primer
for my friend "K"
part two:
Lunch At Playa Sol
One of the sheer
decadent
delicious
delightful
pleasures
of My Favorite Island
is
"my beach"
Playa Sol
and specifically
Sergio's Beach Club
One of the greatest
indulgences
of
A Day At Playa Sol
is
lunch on the beach
right there
right on the beach...
Well of course
we have to start
with guacamole
lots
of guacamole
lots
and lots
of guacamole
When you have
lunch on the beach
seafood is very appropriate
so
how about a coctel de camarones
(that's a shrimp cocktail
for a pale skin
redhead girl from Kansas)
Of course
part of the experience
of
A Day At Playa Sol
is
Rogelio
a/k/a "Roger"
and here
he has pina coladas
And
this is one
of the pina coladas
from
Rogelio
you will like this
when we do
A Day At Playa Sol
we can have music
with
lunch on the beach
"Sabor a Mi"
or "Besame Mucho"
might be appropriate
or
"Guantanamera"
if you want to sing
about
the "one ton tomato"
You know who this is
Happy

An Isla Mujeres Primer for My Friend "K" and this is part one
My friend "K" has not been to Mexico in 24 years...
the last time was 1985 with me
but that is a different story...
She has never been to the Yucatan Peninsula
Never been to Isla Mujeres
Never seen the Caribbean
She is joining me for New Years Eve this year
Her first visit to My Favorite Island
I am a bit envious
She gets to see it all for the very first time
So dear "K"...
I have put together a little "primer"
Just to put it all
In a little perspective
from
Planeta Scottozoid
to
Isla Mujeres
The world of the Mexican Caribbean
celebrates the holiday season
but they do it just a little differently
than you are used to where you live
Oh they got Santa Claus
but they also got seafood tacos
And Christmas lasts about a month...
(this foto is actually from Cancun
but you get the idea)
You need a map of My Favorite Island
And this is one version
This is another version
And another version
These are all hard to fold up and put in yer tote bag
So we will have to get you
A Can Do Mapchick Map of Isla Mujeres
And we will as soon as the new ones are ready...
So my dear "K" this is just a beginning
A primer
More to come in part two
